Azerbaijan-Indonesia Relations

The Republic of Indonesia recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan on December 28, 1991, diplomatic relations between the two countries were established on September 24, 1992.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the 24^th Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers on December 9-13, 1996 in Jakarta. There was a bilateral meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Indonesia on the sidelines of the Session.

Sheikh-ul-Islam Haji Allahshukur Pashazade, the Chairman of the Board of Muslims of the Caucasus participated in the 6^th Conference of Ministers of Endowment and Islamic Affairs on October 29-November 1, 1997 inIndonesia .

Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan received the Credentials of Amin Rianom, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Indonesia to the Republic of Azerbaijan (with residence in Ankara) on February 17, 2004.

Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan received A.Rianom, the Ambassador of Indonesia toAzerbaijan on February 17, 2004.

The President of Azerbaijan signed a Decree on the establishment of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Republic of Indonesia on April 16, 2004.          

A delegation led by Sanusi, the Director for South and Central Asian Affairs of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia visited Azerbaijan in July 2004 to discuss bilateral draft treaties. Sanusi had meetings in the Ministry of Taxes, Ministry of Economic Development of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the State Concern "AzAL".

E.Mammadyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Hassan Wirajuda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation and Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on September 24, 2004, on the sidelines of the 59^th Session of the UN General Assembly.     

Azerbaijan assisted the tsunami victims ofIndonesia and channeled the humanitarian assistance of $1 million through the United Nations in December 2004.

Nana Sutresna, the Personal Representative of the President of the Republic of Indonesia visitedAzerbaijan on March 18-21, 2005, delivered a letter of invitation to the President of Azerbaijan to attend the Asia-Africa Summit 2005 in Jakarta.

A.Rianom, the Ambassador of Indonesia toAzerbaijan visitedAzerbaijan on March 19, 2005 to discuss bilateral draft treaties.

Yagub Eyyubov, the First Vice-Premier of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the Asia-Africa Summit on April 22-23, 2005 in Jakarta.

The President of Azerbaijan signed a Decree on September 13, 2005 appointing Ibrahim A. Hajiyev as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of Indonesia.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev started his duties in the country on December 1, 2005.  

The Embassy of Azerbaijan inIndonesia moved to a new building on February 1, 2006. It was the first Azerbaijani embassy in Southeast Asia.

H.Wirajuda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia received Ambassador I.Hajiyev on February 1, 2006.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev presented his Credentials to Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the President of the Republic of Indonesia on February 6, 2006.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Ali Alatas, the Advisor to the President of the Republic of Indonesia on March 16, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Yusuf Kalla, the Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia received Ambassador I.Hajiyev on April 3, 2006.

A delegation led by Tahir Budagov, the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the 62^nd Session of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) on April 6-12, 2006 in Jakarta.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Rachmat Witoelar, the State Minister for Environment of the Republic of Indonesia on May 2, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

The President of Azerbaijan signed a Decree on May 16, 2006 appointing I.Hajiyev as non-resident Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Republic of the Philippines. 

I.Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan sent a condolence letter to S.B.Yudhoyono, the President of Indonesia on May 28, 2006 in connection with an earthquake on May 27, 2006 in Yogyakarta. E.Mammadyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Ambassador I.Hajiyev sent condolence letters to H.Wirajuda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia. On June 21, 2006, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia sent a letter of thanks for the condolence letter by the Ambassador in connection with the earthquake in Yogyakarta. 

Azerbaijan donated $100 thousand toIndonesia for rehabilitation from the earthquake.

On the occasion of the National Day: May 28- Republic Day, "The Jakarta Post" newspaper published information onAzerbaijan and placed it on its website for one month.

A reception to celebrate May 28- Republic Day was organized on May 29, 2006 in the Sahid Jaya Hotel.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Hamid Avaluddin, the Minister of Justice and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia on May 30, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev participated and presented a paper at the workshop and business meeting "Exploring Economic and Cultural Potentialities of West Sumatra Province in the Effort to Enhance Bilateral Relations between Indonesia and Central Asia, Azerbaijan and Pakistan" on June 6-7, 2006 in Bukittinggi.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Mohammad S. Hidayat, the President of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry on June 13, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance economic and trade cooperation.

A delegation led by H.Wirajuda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia participated in the 33^rd Session of the Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers on June 19-21, 2006 in Baku. On the sidelines of the Session, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia met with E.Mammadyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev participated in an international seminar organized by the Ministry of Public Works of the Republic of Indonesia and the Asian Institute of Technology on June 28, 2006.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Hatta Rajasa, the Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia on July 6, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Sri Mulyani Indrawati, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia on August 11, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

S.Agasiyev, the representative of the Chamber of Auditors of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the Audit Seminar in August 2006 in Jakarta.

A delegation led by Mukhlis Paeni, the Senior Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia participated in the 5^th Session of the Islamic Conference of Tourism Ministers on September 11-12, 2006 in Baku. 

The Embassy extended humanitarian assistance on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan to the "Daarul Aitam" orphanage on October 9, 2006.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Dino Patti Djalal, the Spokesperson of the President of the Republic of Indonesia on October 20, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Agung Laksono, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia on October 31, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

The Embassy communicated to the publishers "CV. Indo Prima Sarana" and "Karisma Publishing Group" on the discrepancies in their publications on November 14, 2006 and requested that they be duly corrected. A letter was also sent to Bambang Soedibyo, the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia in this regard on December 1, 2006.   

A meeting with Indonesians graduated from the Azerbaijan Oil Academy was held on November 15, 2006 in the Embassy.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Rozy Munir, the Vice Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama, the largest Muslim organization in Indonesia on November 20, 2006.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon B.Soedibyo, the Minister of National Education of Indonesia on November 28, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Din Syamsuddin, the Chairman of Muhammadiyah, the second largest Muslim organization in Indonesia on November 29, 2006.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Sofyan A. Djalil, the State Minister for Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia on December 5, 2006 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

A meeting to remember the 17th anniversary of the January 20, 1990 tragedy was held on January 18, 2007 in the Embassy.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Sudi Silalahi, the Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Indonesia on January 25, 2007 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev presented his Credentials to Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the President of the Republic of the Philippines on January 30, 2007.

The Indonesia-Azerbaijan Bilateral Cooperation Group was established on January 30, 2007 in the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia. 

The Embassy staff presented the humanitarian assistance of foodstuff, drinking water, medicine, etc. to the Indonesian Red Cross on February 8, 2007 in connection with floods at the end of January-beginning of February 2007 in Jakarta.

A meeting to remember the 15th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide was held on February 22, 2007 in the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University of Indonesia.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Teo L. Sambuaga, the Chairman of the Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia for Defence, Foreign Affairs and Communication on March 1, 2007 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev held a meeting with the Editorial Board of the "Suara Pembaruan" newspaper on March 7, 2007 at an invitation by Vim Tangkilisan, the Chief Executive Officer.  

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Abdillah Toha, the Chairman of the Committee of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia for Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation on March 14, 2007 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev visited Bandung on March 21-22, 2007 to explore opportunites to develop economic cooperation between the two countries.

A delegation led by Abbas Valibayov, the Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the High Level Meeting on Responsible Practices for Sharing Avian Influenza Viruses and Resulting Benefits, preceded by the High Level Technical Meeting on March 26-28, 2007 in Jakarta.

A meeting to remember March 31- the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis was held on March 29, 2007 in the Institute for Strategic Studies of Indonesia.

President I.Aliyev and Minister of Foreign Affairs E.Mammadyarov of Azerbaijan sent condolence letters to their Indonesian counterparts in connection with an earthquake in Sumatra and an airplane crash in Yogyakarta in March 2007.   

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Imron Kotan, the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on April 10, 2007 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

An invitation letter from Ogtay Asadov, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis (Parliament) of the Republic of Azerbaijan to his Indonesian counterpart to pay a visit to Azerbaijan was presented to the Indonesian side on April 13 and June 11, 2007.

Dalton Sembiring, the Director a.i. for Information and Media of the Directorate General for Information and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia and Veeramalla Anjaiah, the Foreign Desk Editor of "The Jakarta Post" newspaper participated in the International Conference on the Role of Media in the Development of Tolerance and Mutual Understanding on April 26-28, 2007 in Baku.

Seven representatives of the Azerbaijan Rural Investment Project (AzRIP) visited Indonesia as an exchange program sponsored by the International Monetary Fund on April 28-May 8, 2007. 

A meeting dedicated to Azerbaijan was held on May 2, 2007 in the Department of International Relations of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences of the University of Indonesia.

The Embassy participated on June 13, 2007 in the inauguration ceremony of the "Soropadan Agro Expo III 2007" exhibition on June 13-18, 2007 in Soropadan.

Said Irandoust, the President of the Asian Institute of Technology (Thailand) and Nico Barito, the Senior Fellow of the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) visited Azerbaijan on June 18-21, 2007 to explore opportunities for cooperation.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Abdurrahman Wahid, the former president of Indonesia on September 7, 2007 to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Megawati Soekarnoputri, the former president of Indonesia on September 20, 2007 to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Komaruddin Hidayat, the Rector of the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University on October 4, 2007 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral cooperation.    

The Embassy extended humanitarian assistance on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan to the "Sayap Ibu" orphanage on October 4, 2007.

The Embassy held press briefing on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development- GUAM on October 8, 2007.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Mohammad Nuh, the State Minister for Communication and Information of the Republic of Indonesia on October 9, 2007 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

First Secretary Sugeng Wahono and Second Secretary Herian Yuliansyah of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Tehran participated in the Experts Meeting of the Islamic Conference of the Heads of Law Enforcement Agencies (ICHLEA) of the OIC Member States on October 22-24, 2007 in Baku.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon M.Nuh, the State Minister for Communication and Information of Indonesia on November 5, 2007 to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues.

A delegation led by Fikrat Mammadov, the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vice President of the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA) participated in the 2nd Annual Conference and General Meeting of the IAACA on November 21-24, 2007 in Bali.  

Umayra Tagiyeva, the Deputy Head of the Department of National Hydrometeorology of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the United Nations Climate Change Conference on December 3-14, 2007 in Bali.    

A delegation led by Aslan Aslanov, the Director General of the Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency (AzerTAj) participated in the 13th General Assembly of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News Agencies (OANA) on December 9-14, 2007 in Jakarta. A.Aslanov and Ahmad Mukhlis Yusuf, the President Director/CEO of the Indonesian National News Agency (Antara) signed the Memorandum of Understanding between Indonesian National News Agency and Azerbaijan State Telegraph Agency concerning News Exchange Cooperation on December 13, 2007 at Antara’s 70th Anniversary ceremony.         

Rusli Rashid, the Secretary-General of the Russian and CIS Committee of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Arun Taneja, the Director for Foreign Relations of the Indorama Business Group visited Azerbaijan on December 13-20, 2007 to explore opportunities for cooperation.

N.Barito, UNITAR’s Senior Fellow and Maman Suryaman, the Vice President of Damba Intra visited Azerbaijan on December 21-26, 2007 to explore opportunities for cooperation.

A meeting to remember the 18th anniversary of the January 20, 1990 tragedy was held on January 17, 2008 in the Embassy.

A delegation led by Ramiz Rzayev, the Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the 2nd Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC) on January 28-February 1, 2008 in Bali.  

I.Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan sent a condolence letter to S.B.Yudhoyono, the President of Indonesia on January 29, 2008 in connection with the death of Mohammad Soeharto, the former president ofIndonesia .

Ambassador I.Hajiyev participated in the Hajj Hospital Ground Breaking Ceremony on February 14, 2008 in Batam. 

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon A.Laksono, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of Indonesia on February 15, 2008 to convey invitation letters to the International Conference "For Democracy and Stability: New Opportunities for Cooperation" to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev organized by the New Azerbaijan Party on May 7, 2008 in Baku and also from O.Asadov, the Chairman of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan to participate in celebrations to mark the 90^th anniversary of the Parliament of Azerbaijan on June 18-20, 2008 in Baku.      

Meetings to remember the 16th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide were held on February 18, 2008 in the Indonesian Institute of Sciences and on February 21, 2008 in the Jakarta State University.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Fauzi Bowo, the Governor of the Jakarta Province on March 5, 2008 to convey a congratulatory letter from Hajibala Abutalibov, the Head of the Executive Power of Baku City and to discuss the ways of cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev participated in the "Tour of the Eka Karya Botanical Gardens in Bedugul- Bali" on March 8-9, 2008 under the auspices of M.Soekarnoputri, the Chairperson of the Indonesia Foundation of Botanical Gardens.

A meeting to remember March 31- the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis was held on March 28, 2008 in the Trisakti University of Indonesia.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Darmansjah Djumala, the Head of the Center for Education and Training of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on March 31, 2008 to discuss the ways of cooperation between the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and the Center.

A delegation led by Hendarman Supandji, the Attorney General of the Republic of Indonesia participated in the Meeting of the IAACA Executive Committee on March 31-April 2, 2008 in Baku. Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon H.Supandji on April 23, 2008 to share his impressions about the meeting and Azerbaijan.    

Adrienne Trinovia Sulistyo, the student of Indonesia’s Surya Institute led by Srisetiowati Seiful, the Director of the Institute participated in the International Environmental Project Olympiad on April 1-6, 2008 in Baku.      

The presentation of the book "War Against Azerbaijan: Targeting Cultural Heritage" prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation was held on April 8, 2008 in the Hotel Le Meridien.

The delegation of teachers and pupils of the Jakarta International School led by Steven Michael Westberg participated in the International Schools Theatre Association Festival on April 10-13, 2008 in Baku.

Atte Sugandi (Democrat Party) and Lena Maryana (United Development Party), the members of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia participated in the International Conference "For Democracy and Stability: New Opportunities for Cooperation" on May 7, 2008 in Baku.

H.Wirajuda, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia paid on May 11-12, 2008 an official visit to Azerbaijan, was received by President I.Aliyev, met with Prime-Minister Artur Rasi-zade, Chairman of the Parliament O.Asadov, Minister of Foreign Affairs E.Mammadyarov.

H.Wirajuda conveyed an invitation letter from S.B.Yudhoyono, the President of Indonesia to I.Aliyev, the President of Azerbaijan to pay an official visit to Indonesia and invited Minister E.Mammadyarov to visit his country.  

A business forum was held and two agreements- "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on Visa Exemption for Diplomatic and Service Passports" and "Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia on Economic and Technical Cooperation" were signed during the visit.

Award presentation to the winners of the competition "Azerbaijan Through the Eyes of Indonesian Students" to commemorate the 85^th birth anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the 90^th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was held on May 16, 2008 in the Trisakti University. A photo-exhibition dedicated to the National Leader was arranged on the sidelines of the meeting.  

Ambassador I.Hajiyev visited the Papua Province on May 21-23, 2008 at the invitation of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and the provincial authorities of Papua to promote investments.  

A reception to celebrate May 28- Republic Day was organized on May 28, 2008 in the Hotel Borobudur. R.Witoelar, the State Minister for Environment of Indonesia was the Guest of Honour at the celebrations.

A.Taneja, the Director for Foreign Relations of the Indorama Business Group and Deepu Sivadas, the Project Engineering Manager of the company visited Azerbaijan on June 2-6, 2008 to participate in the "International Caspian Oil and Gas 2008" exhibition.

V.Anjaiah, the Foreign Desk Editor of "The Jakarta Post" newspaper and Laura Schuurmans, the Senior Director of the PT. Schuurmans Indonesia Mentari Travel Services Company participated in the International Forum "Expanding the Role of Women in Cross-Cultural Dialogue" on June 10-11, 2008 in Baku. 

A delegation led by Priyo Budi Santoso, the Head of the Golkar Faction of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia participated in celebrations to mark the 90^th anniversary of the Parliament of Azerbaijan on June 18-20, 2008 in Baku.

Maksud Tuayev from Azerbaijan participated in the International Youth Forum 2008 on "The Role of Youth; Action on Millennium Development Goals toward a Peaceful World" on June 23-30, 2008 in Bandung.

First Secretary of the Embassy Matin Mirzayev participated in the NAASP (New Asian African Strategic Partnership) Ministerial Conference on Capacity Building for Palestine on July 14,  2008 in Jakarta.

Elmar Iskandarov, Gunel Bayramova and Ulkar Gafarly, the students of the Azerbaijan University of Languages participated in the Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship 2008 Program organized by the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia on   August 2-October 31, 2008.     

Habib Zarbaliyev, the Professor of the Azerbaijan University of Languages participated in the program "Presidential Friends of Indonesia" organized by the Indonesian Government on August 13-19, 2008 on the occasion of the 63^rd anniversary of the Independence of the country.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon A.M.Yusuf on September 11, 2008 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Mohammad Mahfud, the Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Indonesia on September 25, 2008 to convey a congratulatory letter from Farhad Abdullayev, the Chairman of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan and to discuss the ways of cooperation.    

The Embassy extended humanitarian assistance on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan to the needy through the Medical Emergency Rescue Committee (MER-C) on September 24, 2008.

Fariz Ismayilzade and Taleh Ziyadov, the officials of the Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy visited Indonesia on October 7-9, 2008, lectured onAzerbaijan, Caucasus and Central Asia, Azerbaijan’s Role in Energy Security, Security Threats in the Caspian Region and Azerbaijan at the Crossroads of the East-West and North-South Transport Corridorson October 8 in the Center for Education and Training of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia, met with D.Djumala, the Head of the Center.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev participated in the Indonesian cultural performance "Indonesia Channel 2008" related to the Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship 2008 Program on October 31, 2008 in Yogyakarta.

Ahmad Zahir from Indonesia participated in the International Conference "Islamophobia and Other Forms of Discrimination Based on Religion or Belief: Consequences on Young People and the Youth Work Responses" on November 5-8, 2008 in Baku.

The delegation of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation visited Indonesia on November 26-29, 2008 to participate in the forum "South and Central Asia: Trade-Investment Joint Promotion and Business Meeting" on November 26-27 in Balikpapan, had meetings on November 28 in the Coordinating Ministry for  Economic Affairs, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Investment Coordinating Board.

M.Mirzayev participated in the Experts Group Preparatory Meeting of the Bali Democracy Forum on November 10-11, 2008 in Bali and the Bali Democracy Forum on December 10-11, 2008.  

The Embassy published the books and booklet "Armenia-Azerbaijan Conflict", "Great Silk Road and Azerbaijan", "Azerbaijani Carpets" and "Information for Tourists" in English and Bahasa Indonesia, produced a DVD depicting Azerbaijani culture and  distributed them among Indonesian officials, political and social personalities, regions, centres of science and education, mass media. 

The Embassy printed a stamp to commemorate the 85th birth anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and distributed it among Indonesian officials, political and social personalities, regions, centres of science and education, mass media. 

The DVD about National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the booklets "The Series of "The True Facts about Garabagh"" produced by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation were distributed among the Indonesian public.

The Embassy produced a compilation of Reports on the International Legal Responsibilities of Armenia as the Belligerent Occupier of Azerbaijani Territory, on the Fundamental Norm of the Territorial Integrity of States and the Right to Self-Determination in the Light of Armenia’s Revisionist Claims and on the Legal Consequences of the Armed Aggression by the Republic of Armenia against the Republic of Azerbaijan circulated by the Azerbaijani side as official documents at the UN General Assembly and Security Council and distributed it among Indonesian officials, political and social personalities, regions, centres of science and education, mass media. 

The Embassy produced badges with Azerbaijani and Indonesian flags and distributed them at joint meetings.       

The Embassy has provided renewed information on Azerbaijan for the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

The Presidents and Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Indonesia have been exchanging letters on National holidays and other important occasions.

Azerbaijan and Indonesia have mutually beneficial cooperation at the UN, OIC and other international and regional organizations. The positions of the two countries are close or overlap at international forums. Both countries are active participants in the war against separatism and international terrorism.

Indonesia has always reiterated its support for the peaceful resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in accordance with the generally accepted norms and principles of international law, based on sovereignty, territorial integrity and inviolability of internationally recognized borders of States and also for the implementation of the relevant Resolutions of the UN Security Council and OIC and OSCE decisions. Indonesia supported on March 14, 2008 the draft resolution "Situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan" proposed by Azerbaijan at the 62^nd Session of the UN General Assembly, submitted information in favour of Azerbaijan to the UN for the Report of the UN Secretary General on the implementation of the mentioned resolution.

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Indonesia in 2008 was $1,416.7 mln.

There are eight Azerbaijanis in Indonesia, nearly twenty Indonesians are employed by multinational companies in Azerbaijan.

An Azerbaijani Corner was launched and a seminar dedicated to "Baku Tragedy" was held on January 20, 2009 at the faculty of Adab and Humanities of the Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev visited the North Sumatra Province on January 30-February 1, 2009 at the invitation of the governor of the province to explore opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev called upon Triyono Wibovo, the newly appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia on February 4, 2009 to discuss ways to enhance bilateral and multilateral cooperation.    

Ambassador I.Hajiyev was interviewed by the program "Jendela Dunya" (Window to the World) of Indonesia’s "TVRI" public television on February 10, 2009, which was broadcasted on March 6.   

A meeting to remember the 17^th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide was held on February 19, 2009 in the Hotel Manhattan.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev visited the Central Java Province on February 21-23, 2009 at the invitation of the governor of the province to explore opportunities for economic cooperation between the two countries.

The website address of the international campaign "Justice for Khojaly" initiated by OIC Youth Forum General Coordinator for Intercultural Dialogue Leyla Aliyeva was disseminated among the leading mass media of Indonesia on February 25, 2009.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev participated in the 5th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF 2009) "Food and Energy Security and Stemming the Tide of Global Financial Crisis" on March 2-3, 2009 in Jakarta.   

Taleh Guliyev and Aydin Mammadov, the officials of AzerTAj visited Indonesia on March 3-10, 2009 within the cooperation between AzerTAj and Antara.

Mahir Gahramanov, the Chief of the Division of Research Works, Statistics and Licensing of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the 5^th UNWTO International Conference on Tourism Statistics "Tourism: an Engine for Employment Creation" on March 30-April 2, 2009 in Bali.   

A meeting to remember March 31- the Day of Genocide of Azerbaijanis was held on March 31, 2009 in the "Kharisma Bangsa" Indonesian-Turkish school.

Masno Ginting, the President of the International Junior Science Olympiad visited Azerbaijan on April 1-5, 2009 in connection with preparation for the 6^th International Junior Science Olympiad.   

The delegation of a teacher and pupils of PASIAD (Pacific Countries Social and Economic Solidarity Association) Indonesia led by Mesut Orhan participated in the International Environmental Project Olympiad on April 1-5, 2009 in Baku.

A delegation led by Samir Sharifov, the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan participated in the 42^nd Asian Development Bank (ADB) Board of Governors Annual Meeting on May 2-5, 2009 in Bali. Ambassador I.Hajiyev accompanied the delegation, participated in the meeting.   

A meeting to commemorate the 86^th birth anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held on May 8, 2009 in the Driyarkara Institute of Indonesia.

A reception to celebrate May 28- Republic Day was organized on May 28, 2009 in the Hotel JW Marriott. Meutia Farida Hatta, the State Minister for Women’s Empowerment of the Republic of Indonesia was the Guest of Honour at the celebrations, congratulated the leadership and people of the Republic of Azerbaijan on this momentous occasion.    

On the occasion of May 28- Republic Day, "The Jakarta Post" newspaper interviewed Ambassador I.Hajiyev and published an article under the title "Azerbaijan-RI Trade Soars to $1.41b: Envoy", a competition "Azerbaijan Through the Eyes of Indonesian Students" was held in the Jakarta State University.                                                                                                               

Charge d’Affaires a.i. M.Mirzayev participated in the United Nations Asian and Pacific Meeting on the Question of Palestine on June 8-9, 2009 in Jakarta.

Leyla Haziyeva, Khanim Aliyeva and Elmir Badalov, the students of the Azerbaijan University of Languages participated from July 29, 2009 in the three months Indonesian Art and Culture Scholarship 2009 Program under the auspices of the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia.

President of Indonesia decorated Habib Zarbaliyev, the professor of the Azerbaijan University of Languages with the order for contribution to the enhancement of cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Indonesia. The order was presented by the Ambassador of Indonesia to Iran and concurrently to Azerbaijan in Tehran during the celebrations of the Indonesian National Day.

Rukmi Hadihartini and Rusnaedy Johari, the officials of the “Pertamina” Oil and Gas Company of Indonesia visited Azerbaijan on September 3-4, 2009 to discuss mutual cooperation.

An Azerbaijani Fund was launched on September 7, 2009 at the National Library of Indonesia.

Azerbaijan donated $30 thousand to Indonesia for rehabilitation from the earthquake on September 30, 2009 in West Sumatra. The financial aid was transferred to the bank account of the National Disaster Management Agency on December 30, 2009.

Trade turnover between Azerbaujan and Indonesia in 2009 was $665 mln.

On January 4, 2010 Ambassador I.Hajiyev sent a congratulatory letter to former Vice-President Yusuf Kalla on his election a Red Cross Chairman.

Embassy had a meeting with National Coordinator of the International Campaign “Justice for Khojaly” in Indonesia Imas Chourin Fujiati. Some proposals were discussed and DVD’s were presented for her campaign.

A meeting to remember 20th anniversary of the January 20, 1990 tragedy was held on January 12, 2010 in the Jakarta Art Institute. Ambassador I.Hajiyev and Rector of the Institute Vagiono Sunarto made presentations. Literature and materials on the tragedy were distributed among the participants.

On January 22, 2010 the website of the Department of Foreign Affairs of the Indonesia featured a decision of Indonesian government to establish Indonesian Embassy in Azerbaijan. (Decree was signed by the President on December 23, 2009)

The Secretary General of the Indonesian House of the Representatives referring to the invitation letter from Oktay Asadov, Chairman of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan to Marzuki Alie, Chairman of the Indonesian House of the Representatives proposed the visit of Vice-Speaker, Pramono Anung Wibowo to Azerbaijan.

On February 4, 2010 Counsellor Matin Mirzayev participated in the meeting at Bina Nusantara University dedicated 18th anniversary of the Khojaly Tragedy.

On February 9 2010 Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia acknowledged receipt of $30.000 worth of humanitarian assistance by Azerbaijani Government for the rehabilitation of the earthquake victims in West Sumatra on September 30, 2009.

On February 12, 2010 I.Hajiyev called upon Mohamad Hidayat, newly appointed Minister of Industry. To expedite consideration of the draft agreements in economic-trade fields by the ministries and institutions was requested.

On March 15, 2010 Counsellor of the Embassy M.Mirzayev met with Ernest Soeprapto Hadinoto, Head of Section of Inter-Institutional Cooperation and Scholarships of the Center for Education and Training, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia to exchange views to cooperate and exchange students between Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and Center for Education and Training.

The delegation met with O.Asadov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis, Sh.Mustafayev, Minister of economic development, E.Mammadyarov, Minister of Foreign Affairs, S.Mammadaliyeva, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism to discuss bilateral and multilateral issues of mutual interest.

A presentation of the book "Azerbaijan Seen from Indonesia”, dedicated to the 87th birth anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev was held in Hotel “Alila” on May 11, 2010.

On June 25, 2010 TVRI interviewed V. Anjaiah, deputy production manager of “The Jakarta Post” newspaper on the book “Azerbaijan Seen from Indonesia” written by him.

“The Jakarta Post” newspaper published on Jul 14, 2010 an article by Osman Hakan, Turkish citizen refuting baseless claims by Armenia and confirming, based on historic findings, that Nagorno-Karabakh has been and is a part and parcel of Azerbaijan.

Gultakin Mammadzada and Ulviyya Xalilova, the students of the Azerbaijan University og Languages participated in the three months Indonesian Arts and Culture 2010 Programme organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia on July 26 – October 22, 2010. G. Mammadzada was interviewed by Metro TV on July 29, 2010. Ambassador I. Hajiyev attended the closing ceremony on Indonesian Arts and Culture Scholarship 2010 Programme on October 22, 2010.

On October 12, 2010 Ambassador I.Hajiyev had a meeting with Directorate General for Protocol and Consular Affairs Mr.L.Rauf to submit Note Verbale with a proposal for the State Visit by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Indonesia in 2011.

On November 15, 2010 Ambassador had a meeting with Head of the Center for Education and Training of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Prianti Gjatmiko to discuss ways of enhancement of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan Diplomatic Academy and the Center and presented Azerbaijani counter- draft of the Memorandum of Understanding.

On 9-10 December, 2010 I.Hajiyev participated in and made a Statement at the Bali Democracy Forum.

A letter of congratulation with an invitation to visit Indonesia from Ali Marzuki, Chairman of the House of Representative of Indonesia to Oktay Asadov, Chairman of Milli Majlis was sent on December 14, 2010.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev had a meeting in Krida Wacana Kristen University of Indonesia on January 12, 2011 to enhance the relations in educational field.

A meeting to commemorate the January 20, 1990 tragedy was held on January 18, 2011 in State Politechnics Creative Media. The Ambassador made a presentation at the meeting.

On January 25, 2011 I.Hajiyev had a meeting at the Embassy with H.E.Mrs. Ennaviant Valdes, new Ambassador of Cuba.

The Ambassador had a meeting in Paramadina University of Indonesia on January 26, 2011 to enhance the relations in educational field.

I.Hajiyev had a meeting in Pancasila University of Indonesia on February 16, 2011 to enhance the relations in educational field.

A meeting to commemorate the 19th anniversary of the Khojaly Genocide was held on February 21, 2011 in Kharisma Bangsa School of global education.

Exhibition of photos, books and publications on the Khojaly Genocide, a film show “The Khojaly Genocide” and presentation of the updated web page www.justiceforkhojaly.org of the “Jusice for Khojaly” campaign were organized during the event.

Books on conflict in and around Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan published by the Embassy, T-shirts and badges with the appeal “Jusice for Khojaly” and web address of the campaign were distributed among the participants.

The Ambassador made a presentation at the meeting.

The information on the event was published in “The Jakarta Post” newspaper on February 19, March 2 and March 8, 2011.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev had a meeting in Asy-Syafiiyah Moslem University of Indonesia on February 23, 2011 to enhance the relations in educational field.

An information on nine-year-old schoolboy Fariz Badalov, civilian from Agdam District of Azerbaijan killed by armed forces of Armenia was conveyed to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia on March 11, 2011.

Surya Yogo, advisor to the Minister of Culture and Tourism of Indonesia and Vahyu Varsita, deputy director of UNESCO department; Abdul Khalik, chief of international affairs division of “The Jakarta Post”; Oskar Motuloh, National News Agency (ANTARA) photographer participated in World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held in Baku on April 7-9, 2011.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev paid a courtesy call to bid farewell to Albert F. del Rosario, Philippines Foreign Affairs Secretary on April 26-28, 2011.

A meeting to celebrate 88th birth anniversary of the national leader of Azerbaijan Haydar Aliyev and launching of a new book “Azerbaijan Album” were held in Jakarta “Alila” hotel on May 9, 2011.

Ambassador I.Hajiyev presented his credentials to Xose Ramos Horta, President of Timor-Leste on May 12, 2011.

The Embassy participated in book exhibition by Indonesian National Library on May 18-20, 2011.

Elmar Mammadyarov, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan participated in The 16th Ministerial Conference and Commemorative Meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on May 24-28, 2011. During the Conference the Minister had a number of bilateral meetings. Azerbaijan became a full member of the Movement in the Conference. Elmar Mammadyarov made 3 presentations and statements in the Conference. In his first statement the Minister expressed his gratitude to all member-countries for supporting Azerbaijan’s full membership, he expressed appreciation to Egypt, Chair of the Movement and Indonesia as a host country. Minister’s following statement covered Azerbaijan’s contemporary development, country’s foreign policy, Armenian-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Azerbaijan’s support for Palestine’s statehood. Minister in his brief presentation on behalf of European regional group of NAM expressed his gartitude for excellent job and hospitality of the host country.

The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Indonesia organized official reception on the occasion of 20th anniversary of the restoration of independence of Azerbaijan and 28th May - the Republic Day on May 30, 2011. Irman Gusman, Chairman of Regional Representatives Council of Indonesia; Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, Head of Presidential Work Unit on Overseeing and Controlling Development (UKP4); Meutia Hatta, a member of Presidential Advisory Council, former minister; Hamzah Thayeb, Director General, Asia-Pasific and African affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs participated in the reception.
